God loves us and wants HIS best for us, not our futile attempts at temporary happiness. He wants us to experience eternal joy that only comes with His salvation. ~ Jeremiah 17:9
Guarding the heart, as I understand it, means being incredibly careful with what you love, worship, and give your life to because, the heart is the pre-cognitive source one’s dispositions, which shape our affections and desires, which also direct our beliefs and actions. But the thing is, the heart can be shaped by habitual practices too. So in a sense, what we do, love, and give ourselves to can actually re-order our whole way of life (for better or worse). So, yes, guard the heart because, everything we do flows from it. ~ Nick Barrett
